An important point about Labour membership rules - what’s the latest date you can join and be guaranteed a vote for the new leader.
Essentially, the “freeze date” (the date you have to join by to get a vote) is at least 2 weeks after the approved timetable is announced (expected to be 7 January). So that’s 21 January.
According to Labour List (probably not scientific), this is the current state of play among *existing* members.
So it does not look like a done deal: and anyone left of centre who wants to see a serious left/left of centre opposition to the Johnson government should really join and vote. Under FPTP, other options (in 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿) are a side-show, if the main party of opposition is dysfunctional.
