But even that is a curveball. The real significance of human rights isn't their enumeration. It's the very idea that human beings, by virtue of their very humanity, have certain inalienable rights whose legitimacy precedes and suprasses that of any government or human institution
Also, if you want to critique how the West has treated human rights, perhaps spend less time on that sterile "human rights are Western" line, and more on how powerful Western nations guaranteed human rights at home while systematically denying them to our region
