The story of the Thanksgiving Turkey illustrates why one should not blindly hold assets that can collapse and never recover --- risk management is a mandatory requisite, unless funds allocated are relatively insignificant and one can truly afford to lose them all.
Bitcoin can collapse and never recover. Regardless of how much price has increased through time, past performance is *not* indicative of future results.

=> HODLing best done with a small percentage of available wealth.
"Bitcoin is a fascinating experiment but it is still just that: an experiment. As such it still has a chance of failing and becoming worthless." - Wences Casares.

Corollary: those who repeat HODL like a religious mantra are either

- speculating with very small sums,
- early investors who already got lucky,
- very irresponsible, or
- simple shills/promoters
Insightful take: "the biggest risk to Bitcoin is people investing amounts they cannot afford to lose".
