/ The outrage some Sanders staffers expressed over the campaign buying things from Amazon is indicative of the absurdity of puritanical leftism. I understand the critique of Amazon. But this is performative radicalism...bumper sticker leftism. Leftism as consumer choice...
/ Under capitalism there are no truly ethical consumer choices and we're all compromised in various ways. One tries to minimize the collaboration but sadly avoiding Amazon is incredibly difficult for cost and efficiency reasons...and why make THIS the place to draw the line?...
/ Why not say the campaign shouldn't use computers bc they're made in virtual sweatshops & are bad for the environment? Or the campaign shouldn't fly places or drive bc fossil fuel? It's fine 2 seek for more progressive alternatives, but this "how dare they" shit is tired...
/ It's what we did in the 80s, boycotting Coors, thinking it made a difference. It didn't. It was ascetic moralizing and empty virtue signaling, even as we drank other beer made by companies that probably had shitty records on labor (but we didn't even look into it)...
/ And the strategic ineptitude is stunning...if you want to build a movement of millions, bashing people who use Amazon is probably not a genius move, considering you're bashing probably most Americans (yes even working class folks use Amazon)....just a thought...
