2. Remember what happened when Syria crossed Obama's red line. On Thrusday morning, Obama flexed his executive muscles and said he had all the executive authority needed to respond aggressively to Syria. Congress kept mum. ,
3. On Thursday evening Obama, approaching moment of truth, started leaking in his pants and looking for a way out without appearing like a complete coward. After much anguishing, he hit upon a plan.
4. On Friday, Obama punted it to Congress, saying on second thoughts he would like Congress to make a decision on how he should respond to Syria, and hit the golf course. And that was that. What did the Congress do? Not a fucking thing. And that was the end of the red line.
5. The point is not what Congress should have decided after deliberation. The point is Congress didn't even bring the President's request up for discussion, just as Obama knew they wouldn't. That was the whole point of his punting to Congress. Wet pants, meet brown pants!
6. President Trump should call Congress's bluff and declare openly that if Iran launches an attack on Americans, he would completely defer to Congress for an authorization within 24 hours on how to appropriately respond, after which he will exert his presidential authority.
7. We will see how many generals in Congress will step forward if and when bullets start flying. The whole nation will be watching. Put up or shut up!
