Khomeinist Iran always had a great relation with the criminal Nusayri/Alawi rulers of Syria.

#NeverForget
Khomeini himself, from the very beginning of the Revolution had excellent ties with the Bathist regime of Hafez Al-Assad. In 1978 when Khomeini was forced to leave Iraq where he had been in exile since 1963, Assad suggested him refuge in Damascus.
Assad was quick to embrace the Iranian Revolution of 1979. He sent Khomeini a gold-illuminated Qur'an and congratulatory telegram in which he proclaimed support for the revolution, which he said served the interests of both Arabs and Muslims.
The dictator Hafez who had the blood of thousands of Syrian Sunnis on his hands obtained large quantities of free and discounted Iranian oil in exchange of allowing...
...Iranian Shi'ites to turn many parts of Syria to (yet another) Shia circus of shrine veneration and public self-flagellation. It started with the expansion of the Zaynab shrine and Mausoleum in a completely (previously) Sunni area of Damascus.
From there on public self-flagellation Muharram rituals and pilgrims flocked from Iran, Pakistan and India to Syria, to a grave (Zaynab) which is based on a myth, not a single authentic narration exist for Zaynab's, may Allah have mercy upon her, burial location...
...neither in Sunni nor Shia narrations. But since when do these people who do business and money in the name of the Ahl Al-Bayt care about evidence and accuracy? They make thousands of their gullible Shias travel each year to an empty grave!
Iran turned a blind eye to Assad’s brutality in 1982.

Hafez Al-Assad's crimes against the Sunni population are well recorded. in 1982 (Hama massacre against Syrian Sunnis) he razed the city of Hama to crush a Sunni rebellion, slaughtering his own people.
For three weeks Syrian tanks and planes bombarded Hama while soldiers airlifted in by helicopter carried out house-to-house searches and on-the-spot executions. Estimates of the total number of civilians who died in the siege range widely between 10,000 and 45,000.
The Syrian Muslim Brotherhood (who lead the revolt in Hama) was a group with clear Islamist credentials, but Iran’s state-controlled media had imposed a news blackout on the Brotherhood’s activities.
Unable to suppress news of the massacre, Iran condemned the group as an ally of Jordan and Israel.
While Khomeini mildly condemned the massacre, Iran’s relations with Syria did not change. His son Bashar is following his father's footsteps, only that he's even more shameless, and so is Shia Mullah led Iran.
In 2012, The Guardian obtained thousands of personal emails from the accounts of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his wife Asma, which revealed their sheltered, spendthrift lifestyle, with Bashar swapping silly videos and dodging sanctions to download entertainments...
...on itunes, and Asma spending thousands in online shopping sprees. They also revealed that Assad was taking advice from representatives of Iran—notably an unnamed political adviser to the Iranian ambassador to Syria—on how to suppress the Syrian uprising.
One memo said he should use “powerful and violent” language, and mention his appreciation for support from “friendly states.”
These are the friends an allys of the "Islamic Republic' of Iran", a bunch of secular Bathist (godless nationalists) Alawite criminals and mass-murderers and Godless Chinese and Russians. This is their Ummah and so called "axis of "Moqawama" (resistance).
