Pelosi ripped up a speech. Trump is ripping up our democracy.

* Unchecked lawlessness

* Treats opposition as illegitimate

* Puts himself above accountability

* Nonstop racism

In this context, the "decorum" debate is meaningless. New:

Media chatter about Pelosi ripping up the speech and the ongoing erosion in decorum misses the point.

It's a category error. Such breaches of civility aren't the threat to democracy here.

The real threat to it is Trump's daily anti-democratic conduct.

Trump treats the opposition as fundamentally illegitimate in every way, and places himself beyond accountability entirely.

Those are far greater threats to the functioning of democracy than that posed by breaches in civility like tearing up a speech.

So this was the last minute hail mary attempt by the Democrats that we were all waiting for, that never materialized. This was after the Senate voted to close the record and allow no new evidence. Schiff is a snake!

@mizdonna Adam Schiff spent the last five months yelling at us that we don't have a king in this country but he sure seems to think that he is one and has the right to circumvent the Senate, the Executive Branch, and the Supreme Court in order to take down the duly elected President.
