1) Brahma Bhaaga (Shrushti): Base of the Linga.

2) Vishnu Bhaaga (Sthithi): Pindika (Pedestal) of Linga. Also represents the "Yoni" (Shakti)

3) Rudra Bhaaga (Laya): Puja Bhaaga of the Linga. Also represents the "Lingam" (Shiva)

4) Paanavattam (Naala): for the Water Course after abhishekam

5) Tripundra: The Shaivite Tilaka

6) Brahma Sutras: Vertical Lines on Rudra Bhaaga.

7) Sirovarttana: The Top of the Linga.

8) The Puja Bhaaga (Lingam) should always be made of "Pumshila" (Male Stone) and Pindika (Pitha/Yoni) should always be made of Strishila (Female Stone)

9) Shiva Lingas with Brahma Sutras & Sirovarttana are called "Manusha Lingas" without these, Lingas are not eligible for worship as per Agama Sastra.

With #Navaratri drawing to a close, taking a look at some of the well known Shakti, Devi temples in Telugu states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Apart from these temples, almost every village and small town has a guardian deity, the Ammavaru or Ammoru as we call them.

As per the Puranas, when Sati died, a grief stricken Shiva, carried her body, performing the Tandava in anger. When the gods implored Vishnu to save the world from Shiva's wrath, he cut Sati's corpse into pieces with his Sudarshana Chakra.

The places where parts of Sati's corpse fell on earth are considered as Shakti Peethas, sanctified by the holy presence of Devi Maa. There are around 51 Shakti Peetha of which 38 are in India, while Bangladesh has 5, Nepal 3, Pakistan 2, and Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Tiber 1 each.
