How does a city's healthcare system crash?

1) A surge of coronavirus patients overwhelms ICUs & beds
2) No one goes to the hospital for fear of catching the virus
3) All other medical procedures grind to a halt

That's Wuhan, Iran, Italy. And soon the US.
For any area hit by coronavirus, it's as if hospitals don't exist. People don't go to them for anything other than a coronavirus-related emergency. And even driving someone there has risk, so the sick might have to drive themselves.
The coming healthcare crisis is like the financial crisis in that both were years in the making & triggered by huge stresses in one area (mortgages, viruses) that took down other parts of the system.

But the financial crisis could be papered over with printed money. This can't.
Read @DellAnnaLuca. They've already hit stage 3 in Northern Italy just a few weeks after the virus started going exponential.

And this is just getting started. Centralized healthcare may not come back online for a while.
The virus crisis may be to US healthcare what the financial crisis was to the banking system.

Loss of trust in federal institutions (HHS/FDA/CDC), hospitals, the whole thing.

That will mean a huge push for decentralized medicine.
