During the coronavirus pandemic in Europe, each country has pursued its own policy. Some countries used to crisis, essentially East Europeans, realize the severity of the crisis & close down their countries. They are likely to succeed as Singapore, Taiwan & Hong Kong.
The West Europeans, by contrast, think that crisis is morally wrong & must not happen. They have waited for far too long to undertake far too few measures. They will suffer badly from their negligence as we are now seeing. You do not ignore a plague!
The natural consequence is that European countries are now closing their borders, effectively breaking up the Schengen passport-free area, one of the greatest achievements of the EU.
Meanwhile, the novel leadership of the European Union has been so preoccupied with its own turf war & Brexit that they have been unable to formulate any EU policy. In the greatest EU crisis since 2010, the EU is not even awake.
Shockingly, the same is happening in the US, although that is supposed to be one country. Each day, President Trump is trying to catch the limelight by pronouncing meaningless platitudes, while Americans want facts, truth & policies.
Instead, the governors are taking over, most of all California governor Gavin Newsom, who has issued a statewide order for all residents to stay at home. Meanwhile, partying continues in the Florida, Lousiana & Nevada.
A fair guess is that California will get control of the pandemic, just like the East Asians, while the southern party states will suffer all the worse. Unfortunately, the natural conclusion will be that the responsible states will block entry to those from irresponsible states.
Therefore, the current lack of a coherent federal US policy on the coronavirus pandemic is a direct threat to the coherence of the United States. Why keep state borders open to irresponsible states that indulge in pandemic out of their chosen ignorance & irresponsibility?
