My son is starting virtual pre-k in 3 minutes and this makes me supremely sad.
Update: He’s all smiles seeing his teachers via zoom.
All the students are muted to manage sound. Which makes sense. But my son keeps trying to say little things to his teachers & he’s getting sad they can’t hear him. Or he’ll crack a little joke his classmates might have laughed at. And they can’t hear him.

Would it surprise you to know that the Governor (@NYGovCuomo) of New York, the global epicenter of Coronavirus & home of Rikers Island w/ the highest infection rate in the world, is spending time as I type pushing forward on plans to jail *more people* on Rikers Island pretrial?
Last night, hours after these horrific numbers came out, NY Dems met behind closed doors. To discuss repealing bail reform already saving thousands from Rikers. @NYSenDems & @NYGovCuomo want to give judges more power to jail people charged w/ misdemeanors & nonviolent felonies.
On Jan 1, 2020, NY bail reform ended pretrial jail for misdemeanors & nonviolent felonies. Kept 1000s charged w/ lowlevel offenses home w/ families, jobs, & free from Coronavirus. @NYGovCuomo & @NYSenDems want to give judges power to jail large categories of these cases again.

Today, I had an extended interview with St. Louis County Executive @DrSamPage about the region's response to the #coronavirus. You can listen to it on the Politically Speaking podcast feed through your iPhone/Android...OR by going to this link. news.stlpublicradio.org/post/political…
In the interview, @DrSamPage started off saying one of the biggest challenges in containing the #coronavirus is the lack of widespread testing.

"The news of the day really is we don't have enough testing. ...It completely changes how we approach this public health emergency."
.@DrSamPage says there is a "reasonable chance" that his "stay-at-home" order for St. Louis County might extend beyond it's April 22nd deadline.

Page said the high point for #coronavirus cases in the St. Louis area is likely to be in late April, though it's hard to predict.

After I wake up I take a hot shower to keep the virus at bay, no longer masculine since I cannot take cold showers.

I stumble over my crate of alphagetti, my foot already feels the first suffering of this horrible virus.

check my phone ...
Through my high speed internet connection I see the horrors of the virus third hand.

Videos of people at the bar which some anonymous asshole tells me are millennials laughing at the virus, no one holds a newspaper with todays date.

I trust anon.
1 can of alphagetti (945/947 remain) in the microwave. I was so busy crushing it I never learned how the stovetop worked, it's probably a liberal conspiracy to take my taxes

I then frantically share all the panic anon takes on these random videos

First check to see if they bothered to add any variability whatsoever in the model they are using to supposedly report actual numbers from a complex system.

The mortality rate they want you to report is the - 0 day rate: Today's Confirmed Death total minus Today's Confirmed Case total.

This has not varied outside of 1/10th of 1% in the last 5 prints.

But even a minor adjustment of a few days in the mortality rate paints an entirely different picture
