1/5 Interesting anecdote on #monkeypox. Someone I know through works in a local hospital, in housekeeping/environmental services.
2/5 She cleaned a #monkeypox positive patient's room without personal protective equipment (PPE) because her colleagues thought it was "no big deal." After all, she is not a gay man or a man who sleeps with men (MSM).🤦🏿♀️
Insane.
3/5 She contracted #monkeypox, positive test confirmed, and she showed up to a family funeral repast recently "to help out," wearing an N95 mask, nitrile gloves and a gown, with active lesions.
4/5 When questioned and asked to leave, she responded with "I'm not going anywhere. I have PPE on. It will be okay." After all, it's only really spread via close, mostly sexual contact.🤷🏾♀️
5/5 If anyone thinks that we have left "plague island," the pandemic is over, the worst is behind us, and that #SARSCoV2, #polio, #monkeypox, and whatever else are manageable because "we have the tools," I have oceanfront property in Nebraska to sell you.

We must complement vaccine induced protection, hybrid immunity and natural immunity with non-pharmaceutical interventions to suppress community transmission. We must!
1/N "... 0.5% povidone iodine (PVP-I) #mouthrinse/gargle for 30 s can reduce #SARSCoV2 virus infectivity to below detectable levels. PVP-I can even interrupt SARS-CoV-2 attachment to #oral & nasopharyngeal tissues & lower the viral particles in the saliva & respiratory droplets."
3/N "[... we propose immediate use of PVP-I in healthcare workers & their patients as described to minimise risk of spread of disease as an addition to currently recommended PPE used during management of #COVID19 patients.]"
