Under Bush, four different supreme court nominations occurred. Although he withdrew two. The first was John Roberts was originally nominated to replace Sandra Day O’Connor but withdrew him when the chief justice, William Rehnquist died and instead nominated him for chief justice.
Nominated again on Sep. 6, 2005, he was a former member of Reagan’s Attorney General’s office and DC circuit judge, Roberts managed to garner broad, bipartisan support and was the last nominee to receive majority support from the party whose president didn’t nominate them.

We discussed this on Friday on @thereidout. Not only did @HawleyMO praise a light sentence (probation) for a cop who strangled his girlfriend with a shirt and orally raped her, he also formed a sex trafficking task force that members called just for show.
And it should be mentioned that @HawleyMO’s “soft on sex crime” record came when he was the top law enforcement official in Missouri as that state’s attorney general, and an apparent publicity hound.

The entire #KetanjiBrownJacksonHearing has been performance art at a time when #SCOTUS public approval ratings are at an all time low. (SCOTUS public approval is lower than after Bush v Gore 😬). It's bread an circuses to give the court a patina of legitimacy.
The process is broken, Gorsuch, Barrett and Kavanagh arguably should not be on the bench. They are only there through the machinations of a GOP Senate leadership that was obsessed with 1) Undermining Obama 2) Ensuring Trump remained in office should his 2020 lawsuits get that far
Even the most casual American voters saw the GOP senate steal a seat from Obama. Millions watched as Kavanagh screamed and pouted to avoid answering questions about his finances, alleged sexual assaults (there were more than 1) and writings on torture during the Bush years

“She handled herself gracefully despite the verbal attacks.” “ She maintained her composure despite the disrespect.” Why are we celebrating this? Why are we not interrogating the fact that such abuse is allowed to happen in this process in the 1st place?
I dream of a future where a woman like #KetanjiBrownJackson can have a hearing without abuse. My dream is for Black women to be able to express anger and/or sadness without judgement. I choose to fight for representation, yes, but also for the joy we deserve.

While @TomCottonAR is badgering Judge #KetanjiBrownJackson re rape and other crime, and @HawleyMO @tedcruz @LindseyGrahamSC etc attacked her about child pornography, a reminder that the girls Brett Kavanaugh was accused of sexually violating were high school and college students.
I don't recall any of their outrage about that. Also: speaking of crime, as @ElieNYC has asked: do they think people convicted of committing violent insurrection against the United States should be sentenced to more time, or less than they have been by present federal judges?

Oh joy. @tedcruz is now doing his distinctive brand of whingey white conservative male performance art; trying to goad #KetanjiBrownJackson into denouncing Critical Race Theory and the #1619Project, neither of which Cruz is smart enough to understand.
The bottom line for the right is that to be qualified for a SCOTUS seat, or really any position in “their” America, Black people must ritualistically disown and denounce Black people, Black thought, Black culture, Black history and any and all racial and historical consciousness.
They must vow to only and always defend white Christian male sovereignty over America, as enumerated in the original constitution. No white candidate for any office is required to similarly denounce white supremacy, white Christian nationalism, or even insurrection. We see y’all.
