The US decision to withdraw from the UN Human Rights Council is an expression of contempt for the world & for the progress it has made, for all those in the world who rely on an international support & protection of their #humanrights.

The US withdrawal from UN Human Rights Council (the first country to leave voluntarily) is a consequence of untrammelled nationalism, xenophobia & populism, also spreading across the world.
It’s not a giant step to see how decades of careful international commitments unravel.

Like so much of the UN, it’s not perfect. But as Zeid said yesterday, it reflects an imperfect world. It’s the best we’ve got & we need to reform, not abandon.
