If you earn enough to complain your taxes are too high, yet you enjoy paved roads, know the EMS will respond, send your children to school, get your illnesses/injuries treated by Canadian health care, trust the food supply, give your head a shake. #cdnpoli 1/
Taxes are the price we pay to live in a civil society. I am happy to pay so someone I have never met gets health care, so our society's children are educated, so our food and water are safe and the environment is protected. 2/
It is important to provide health care, and education to ALL Canadians. It is important to protect workers on the job and make sure our infrastructure is safe. These are things that give us the high quality of life we tend to take for granted. 3/
And we must never forget that there are those who do not make enough to pay taxes. The CPC lexicon doesn't really address them They prefer to call Canadians "taxpayers" as though those are the only Canadians that matter. 4/
Our taxes also go towards programs to help those who struggle. Those who suffer from illness, who have challenges that don't allow them to work, who lack the education to advance... And that is important too. Because we are the Canadian Community. 5/
And, like any community, we need to help one another. Only by helping one another, rather than tearing one another down, do we all rise up. 6/
Supporting a political party that espouses a "survival of the fittest" platform, that promises that you won't have to pay to help your fellow Canadians anymore, is betraying the essence of what we are building as a community. 7/
Our history is imperfect, but we can continually improve; or we can bow down to greed and selfishness. Canada, from coast to coast, has been built on neighbours helping neighbours. People supporting one another through darker times than most recall today... 8/
If you can really say, "I don't want to share any of my hard-earned money, so I am going to vote for low taxes and to hell with everyone else," I am sorry for you. Because a government that spends money wisely, for the PUBLIC GOOD, is a very good thing for all of us. 9/
Any of us could need a helping hand at some point. If you turn your back on other people, how can you hope to have anyone help you in your time of need? Low taxes may sound appealing, but it's too expensive a policy in the long run. 10/10
