Sessions' replacement is a @GOP hack who peddles idiotic, Mark Meadows/Sara Carter-level conspiracy theories as a smokescreen to defend Trump.

So, that's cool.

@GOP Whitaker was also a "board member" of a multi-million dollar scam called "World Patent Marketing" that was shut down by the @FTC in 2018.

ftc.gov/enforcement/ca…
@GOP @FTC In addition to being on their advisory board, Whitaker authored a "white paper" for the scam, helping them bilk would-be inventors out of millions of dollars.
prnewswire.com/news-releases/…
@GOP @FTC World Patent's CEO had given $2,400 in campaign contributions to Whitaker's failed 2014 Iowa Senate campaign, so Whitaker benefited from World Patent's fraudulent scheme, too.

miaminewtimes.com/news/world-pat…
@GOP @FTC Whitaker didn't just contribute a white paper to World Marketing's scam, though; he also threatened World Marketing's victims when they complained:
And, when I say Whitaker's a "replacement-level" GOP activist/hack, this is what I mean:
True to form, that gig at "FACT" paid suspiciously well.

Because, behind every Republican "activist" is a grift.

Whitaker's "watchdog" non-profit serves the same function as other right wing 501(c)(3) outfits, like Judicial Watch: they're @GOP hatchet-men who legally harass Democrats and other Republican foes.

Another way they're all alike? The same dark money funders.
According to 2016 IRS filings, FACT's three directors are Whitaker, a partner at his former Iowa law firm, William Gustoff, and Neil Corkery.

Neil and Ann Corkery have taken turns operating The Wellspring Committee and the Judicial Crisis Network.
You may remember JCN as one of the groups that pushed the hardest to get Brett Kavanaugh confirmed to #SCOTUS. Wellspring is JCN's biggest funder, and the Corkerys founded both.
JCN, Wellspring, and the Federalist Society have worked hand-in-dark-money-glove on Republican judicial appointments since the Bush administration. JCN has also funneled conservative donor money into state AG and judicial races.
The Corkerys are prodigious, though, with Neil acting as a director for a half-dozen political non-profits, including FACT.
So, the same Koch/Singer/Templeton/etc funded groups who've pushed for Trump's Federalist Society-approved judicial picks are the people who've been paying the new Acting AG's way.
Oh, good lord; this is (darkly) amusing: in 2015, Whitaker's FACT grift/non-profit paid $133K to everyone's favorite conservative sleaze-merchants, Alexandria PR firm, CRC Public Relations.
Some of you may remember CRC PR from their misadventures with @EdWhelan123's spectacular "CSI: Zillow" self-immolation during the Kavanaugh hearings.

All of these GOP grifters are running in the same circles, running variations on the same con.
@EdWhelan123 (CRC's recent shitshow with Ed is described here: )
@EdWhelan123 Whitaker's a professional GOP attack dog, like Ed Whelan, or Tom Fitton, and they're all drawing from the same dark money pool:
@EdWhelan123 Replacement-level GOP hatchet man, Whitaker also has ties to America Rising, a GOP oppo firm co-founded by Raj Shah, now a Trump WH press secretary.

thedailybeast.com/matthew-whitak…
@EdWhelan123 GOP goon Trump elevated to Acting AG is, in a word, a liar:
@EdWhelan123 The failed GOP pol Trump picked as Acting AG is a desperate hack who'd say anything to get elected (and has a weak grasp of the constitution).
desmoinesregister.com/story/opinion/…
Important point about Whitaker's close friend, Sam Clovis, and his role in the Trump campaign:
Whitaker may be an unqualified, unprincipled, witless hack, but he's smart enough to realize that flattery and servility are important to Trump (he confuses them with "loyalty").
You know everything's on the level with Whitaker when he proudly stands behind all of his—

Sorry, I've just been told he's protecting (ie, hiding) all his tweets about the topic that got him the job:
THIS IS WHAT I'VE BEEN SAYING!

(But Popehat probably actually knows what he's talking about).

Whitaker: surveillance for thee, but not for me.

I'm shocked (SHOCKED) that it appears that Whitaker, as Sessions CoS, was a rat; a pipeline back to Trump.

vox.com/policy-and-pol…
Turns out Matty The Rat was installed as Sessions CoS at former WH Counsel Don McGahn's urging. McGahn, in turn, got Whitaker's name from the Federalist Society's Leonard Leo.

cnn.com/2018/11/09/pol…
Those of you who've read up the thread will recall Leo's FedSoc is a central part of the @GOP's dark money influence machine where Whitaker made his living as a hatchet-man.
@GOP (Specifically, FedSoc & Judicial Crisis Network coordinate to push GOP judicial picks, and one of JCN's key people was also treasurer for Whitaker's 501(c)(3), FACT. All of these outfits are Koch addicts.)
