Really appalling choice of words. Pitiful to see Labour leadership go out, one by one, to defend Brexit after Johnson resignation damaged its prospects.
Critics of Brexit have been fighting for people to have a say in the future of their country, rather than be handed whatever shabby deal the Tories or May concoct.
Calling them anti-democratic is a shameful slur.
Especially when it comes from politicians who have singularly failed to hold the government to account and are therefore partly responsible for the weakness of the proposals it brings to the Commons.
Thank God for Keir Starmer. If it wasn't for him, Labour would be a complete non-show on this issue.
If Thornberry had done even a half hour of research she'd know that her amalgamation of 'single market' and 'free trade deal' is gibbering contradictory nonsense.
But she hasn't, so she doesn't. She misleads the public and then condemns those who want to give them a say in what is done in their name.
If we could use cretinous buffoonery from front bench politicians as an energy source, no-one in this country would need to work again.
I've now listened to the whole Thornberry interview, after some people mentioned that she didn't rule out People's Vote. It's true, there's the usual learned-by-rote stuff about 'all options being on the table'. But it is the most stupendous blather.
She really doesn't seem to understand basic terms, even the term 'single market', and she's completely unable to talk, in a practical or realistic way, about how the party would fight May's deal-or-no-deal approach.
