The most likely way this ends is with Facebook paying the likes of Fox News, The Daily Wire, and The Blaze for licensing rights and passing their content off as "high-quality and trustworthy information." niemanlab.org/2019/04/facebo…
There is no reason to believe Facebook will do a good job of screening the publishers involved in this program, especially once the right-wing media and Republican ref-working starts:
In 2016, in response to right-wing criticism, Facebook threw out a list of credible news outlets its staff used to manage stories appearing in its Trending Topics section -- then fired the staff and turned the section over to an algorithm. mediamatters.org/blog/2017/12/2…
Facebook made those decisions after Mark Zuckerberg met with a group of conservative political and media figures that included Glenn Beck, Tucker Carlson, and Brent Bozell, so you'll forgive me if I'm skeptical he will credibly identify “high-quality and trustworthy” sources.
Actually filtering “high-quality and trustworthy” information sources would require angering many participants in that meeting, along with Republican members of Congress and President Trump, who would prefer Facebook promotes right-wing news sources.
I am skeptical Facebook ends up doing that. It seems much more likely that what they end up with "balances" sources like New York Times and Washington Post with avowedly conservative outlets, while excluding fringier right-wing sites like Gateway Pundit... and all of the left.
