On Monday at 4:30, @EP_Justice will vote on the terrorism regulation #TERREG. While the compromises include many improvements, most notably the deletion of mandatory #uploadfilter, one huge problem remains: hosts must delete terrorist content within 1 hour politico.eu/wp-content/upl…

Although many liberal MEPs from @EP_Justice like @SophieintVeld @CeciliaWikstrom voted against #uploadfilter for #copyright, it looks like @ALDEgroup will support a 1 hour deadline to delete terrorist content. Here’s a list of committee members: europarl.europa.eu/committees/en/… #TERREG
With #TERREG, small website operators have the choice to either be reachable 24/7 to react to removal orders within 1 hour (even at night), or install filters to automatically delete content when they receive a removal order, without any human oversight.
Only website owners that have never received a removal order before get an extra 12 hours to react – once. That’s not even enough time to be able to switch off your phone over the weekend. A catastrophe for work-life balance of small business owners and hobbyist websites. #TERREG
The likely effect is that small websites will be forced to close and be replaced by a Facebook group, where Facebook has to take care of removing content within 1 hour. Another well-intended proposal that will end up strengthening Internet giants and kill the open web. #TERREG
It’s tragic that the 1 hour rule has survived compromise negotiations for this long, despite all the other great improvements made to the text that aim at protecting fundamental rights. Great job @EvaJoly @Weidenholzer @ErnstCornelia for fighting back against this mess! #TERREG
