Does anyone else find it a little odd that Labour are going to bat so strongly for Assange?
I suppose he sits perfectly in the nexus of anti-American, ‘anti-colonialist’ foreign policy which Labour’s front bench goes for. I’m guessing that if Labour become government relations with America will become a lot choppier
I do think that this case will bring up important free speech issues. But it is unusual for the opposition to get so quickly stuck in on this kind of thing, and it is hardly unimportant that he is about to go to prison for skipping bail for a rape investigation arrest warrant
What do you Abbott and Corbyn think about the sexual assault allegations and Assange skipping bail? Do they believe the narrative that it is all a conspiracy? It’s unsettling to see them take this line as if they arrest warrant and sexual assault allegations never happened

Clearly, there are freedom of press issues - my concern about Labour's approach is that they have prejudged the court process (presumably without full evidence) and ignored the sexual assault allegations

This interview with Diane Abbott is really extraordinary. She appears to have bought into the theory that the sexual assault allegations were part of a secret effort to extradite Assange to the USA. 
Where does she get her legal advice from... YouTube?!
As Home Secretary, Abbott would oversee the police and how they handle allegations of rape - already a hugely difficult issue which requires sensitivity not waving off
This is a useful clarification from @hackneyabbott though the point should have been made swiftly last night when both Corbyn and Abbott came out strongly and unreservedly in defence of Assange
