Reading foreign policy commentary from political pundits and journalists has become unbearable.

People do realize that a full scale ground war or doing nothing are not the only options on how to deal with Iran, right?
Doing nothing as Iran continues to escalate will lead to further aggression. Containment requires for them to recognize consequences to their behavior. Israel’s strategic strikes didn’t magically lead to a full-scare war. Neither would similar strikes from the US.
Ah good to see @EliLake already made the point that we have options other than doing nothing or going to war, and we should explore them:

No one is saying it is ok because Obama did it. People are highlighting these things happened then (& were largely ignored) to reframe the debate so people realize this is complex and there aren't easy answers. 1/2
It's important to note the hypocrisy because it is being framed in a way now that puts 0 pressure on the people contributing to the problem to support realistic solutions.

AOC, Omar etc. proudly oppose any funding & they get cheers because this is framed as just a Trump problem.
If people recognize this is a continuous problem that isn't due to just 1 admin, then they might demand Congress provides funding necessary to alleviate the problem instead of pretending it can magically go away if current admin wasn't evil.

This thread is full of factual errors. This is part of the problem. Someone can write something that is full of errors and it is spread as if it is informed analysis, which leads to more misinformation.
If I really have to, I can go through the whole thread.

Tweet 1: I never argued this was Obama's fault. I even defended Obama admin's actions in different thread.

Tweet 2: It has been repeatedly argued in court that Flores should be read narrowly (including on safe & sanitary)
Tweet 3: The 2017 ruling, which was still based on many actions during the Obama admin, found way more violations than just that.

Tweet 5: Kids were kept for extended periods in 2014, too. That just wasn't the issue in this case.

Let me give you an example of just how dishonest all these arguments have been:

How many people are aware that the conditions being discussed in this viral clip from the legal case re toothbrushes and sleep occurred during the Obama administration?

This was an appeal of a 2017 ruling related to a violation of the Flores agreement during the Obama admin. The gov't lawyer's job is not to argue about whether ICE should provide those things (they should), but that the Obama admin didn't violate the Flores agreement.
Her argument has nothing to do with any unique policy from the current administration. Informed people know that, but they have been using this for days to suggest some unique and intentional cruelty is being enforced now.

#FDR promoted the idea that the people of the world, in all nations, shared entitlement to four freedoms: that of the freedom of speech and expression, the freedom of worship, the freedom from want and the freedom from fear.
#FDR is arguably one of the most 'successful' #US Presidents. Some would argue that on the basis of his numerous social policies such as 'the New Deal'. Others, however, would argue that his role during the second world war was more prevalent to his success & everlasting legacy.
