Right now, you're trying to muscle the UK by threatening it with an air blockade. That would be seen as an act of war against the UK, and immediately arouse the interest of the US.

@ChrisCurran_IRE @LeoVaradkar Again, you're pushing a false equivalence. Were I anything like a Nazi, and America anything like Nazi Germany, America wouldn't wait for Ireland to do anything aggressive before attacking and I wouldn't be suggesting that it should.

The false equivalence that you're pushing is one between starting a fight and finishing one.
@ChrisCurran_IRE @LeoVaradkar If you start a fight with a stronger adversary, thinking that you have sufficient backup to win, and you learn to your regret that your stronger adversary has friends who are stronger still, and you get clobbered, that's on you.

@ChrisCurran_IRE @LeoVaradkar You've attempted (unsuccessfully, of course) to make the case that migrants have the right to go wherever they please, and that the Irish have a right to coerce compliance out of the British in this area because they're still angry about the potato famine of 1845-1849.
@ChrisCurran_IRE @LeoVaradkar Can you find some fine print in an old-ish treaty that will allow Dublin to force London to take in a few more Pakistanis, just for the sake of a little schadenfreude? (If you don't know what word means, ask some of your German friends).

Amid reports that #UK PM @theresa_may hopes to renegotiate the "backstop" provision on the Northern Ireland border, let's recall that she already made clear what she wants in her letter to #EU leaders before disastrously losing the #Brexit Withdrawal Treaty ratification vote. 1/
"This could be mitigated by changes to the backstop itself," she wrote to @eucopresident & @JunckerEU "Proposals for a way in which the UK could choose to exit the backstop unilaterally were it ever to come into force, or for a hard time limit... 2/
on the duration of the usage of the backstop, have been raised and discussed in Parliament. We have also raised them previously in negotiations." So there are her proposals, i.e. the EU should basically just cave on backstop in face of House of Commons defeat. But but but ... 3/

Right. I'm ready to call it! The UK government is aiming for the #Brexit negotiations to lead to:

- A Norway deal
- A 'Norway' v '#Remain' referendum.

Why Norway?

Well, the answer to that lies on the island of #Ireland. Due to the GFA, there are not many ways of squaring the circle of having the hard border that is required by the WTO, Northern Ireland remaining in the UK and the UK being outside the customs union.
So the options faced by HMG are:

1 - call a border poll and let Northern Ireland and the Republic reunite as a single entity. While the Conservatives are nominally the Conservative & Unionist Party, there are many who would not share a tear at the loss of NI....
