In Dec 2009 the UAE spent $500m to buy 25 Pilatus PC-21 turboprop aircraft package. Deliveries began in 2011. Now Swiss govt wants Pilatus out of UAE. Not to be outdone, the Saudis bought 55 of them. They were sold as trainers for jets. airforce-technology.com/projects/pc_21/
In 2018 the Swiss government was concerned that Pilatus was supporting the war effort in Yemen violating Swiss rules on giving logistical support to foreign armed forces or the provision of services which may lead to serious human rights violations. swissinfo.ch/eng/company-re…
An Israeli company, Elbit Systems, was proposing to retrofit older models such as the PC-7 and PC-9 with weapons packages. but PC-21 could not be armed without Pilatus’ support “since the aircraft flies with computer assistance” swissinfo.ch/eng/commercial…
Pilatus was ordered out of the UAE and KSA within 90 days and will not be allowed to service the aircraft. The weapon pods are for training. Beech sells the licensed version here as the Texan II with ISR

The UAE has specialized in purchasing, modifying and then deploying weaponized civilian aircraft ranging from the Northstar Bell 407GXP, IOMAX, Pilatus P7 and Wing Loong drones in Yemen, Eritrea, Libya, Egypt and other conflicts.

Sometimes when you make mistakes, making mistakes faster is not good. Also if LNA is found to be culpable in the Tajoura bombing diplomatic and donor doors will be closing. This press release from the UN is not a good development: un.org/press/en/2019/…
Some perspective: There are about a million migrants in Libya, usually engaged in manual labor or agriculture. Some are saving to go to Europe, many just support their families back home. The people in the detention centers are those captured trying to leave or being smuggled.

@Maxar @bellingcat Missing from the current conversation is the June 15, 2019 Haftar attack on Tajoura militia center...that did hit GNA armaments. This means refugees were being held in/near a military target. Don't confuse with Tajoura prison or former Tajoura nuke center.
@Maxar @bellingcat @malachybrowne and others are gathering excellent visual evidence...of what they know. But civilians kept against their will in known military bases/weapons depots makes them effectively "human shields". A question to ask #GNA and #LNA based on a history of attacks like these.

Initial reports say two separate bombs dropped on Tajoura arms depot hit migrants housed on military base. Tripoli Revolutionaries Brigade, Eighth Brigade (Nawasi), Bab Tajoura Brigade, and Joint Deterrence and Intervention Force Abu Salim are part of Tripoli Protection Force.
The migrants in Tajoura had previously been evacuated after capture by the coast guard in rafts and handed off to the militias. Damage videos indicate a 500lb or similar heavy munition typically dropped by jets. Or two well placed missiles.

1- The attack on pumping stations of the East-West pipeline in Saudi Arabia is significant. It reflects the realization that these pipelines replace the passage through Hormuz Strait. In other words, these pipelines reduce Iran’s ability to influence oil flow in the Strait
2- The attacks on ships on Sunday and the attack on the pumping stations today indicate one thing: the planners chose the weakest spots. Therefore, it cannot be the work of few angry people!
3- Many oil-consuming countries consider energy security as part of their national security. The attack on the oil tankers in the #UAE and then on the pumping stations in #SaudiArabia might result in more countries involved in the region: internationalizing the conflict!

Now that Google+ has been shuttered, I should air my dirty laundry on how awful the project and exec team was.

I'm still pissed about the bait and switch they pulled by telling me I'd be working on Chrome, then putting me on this god forsaken piece of shit on day one.
This will be a super slow burn that goes back many years. I’ll continue to add to over the next couple of days. I’ll preface it with a bunch of backstory and explain what I had left behind, which made me more unhappy about the culture I had come into.
I spent most of my early career working for two radical sister non-profit orgs. I was the only designer working on
anywhere from 4-5 different products at the same time. All centered around activism and used by millions of people.
