In Dec 2009 the UAE spent $500m to buy 25 Pilatus PC-21 turboprop aircraft package. Deliveries began in 2011. Now Swiss govt wants Pilatus out of UAE. Not to be outdone, the Saudis bought 55 of them. They were sold as trainers for jets. airforce-technology.com/projects/pc_21/

Pilatus was ordered out of the UAE and KSA within 90 days and will not be allowed to service the aircraft. The weapon pods are for training. Beech sells the licensed version here as the Texan II with ISR

The UAE has specialized in purchasing, modifying and then deploying weaponized civilian aircraft ranging from the Northstar Bell 407GXP, IOMAX, Pilatus P7 and Wing Loong drones in Yemen, Eritrea, Libya, Egypt and other conflicts.
