UK bridges carry big messages about one of the biggest contributors of environmental destruction and no... it isn’t the industry you think it may be.

You can’t have failed to hear about climate activist Greta Thunberg, a 16‐year‐old school girl making her voice heard for climate justice amongst our most powerful leaders and politicians.

Despite the awareness she’s created, many feel the response is too slow, ‘criminal’ even, given the emergency of the situation, with groups such as Extinction Rebellion blasting the inaction of those in charge..

“The science is clear: We are facing an unprecedented global emergency. We are in a life or death situation of our own making. We must act now. Our leaders are failing us...

Our current system of governance is compromised by a focus on profits, influenced by lobbies of powerful corporations.”

This has led to mass protests with children as young as ten taking to the streets asking the burning question: is there anything we can do?

It turns out animal agriculture is one of the biggest contributors to greenhouse gas emissions, ocean deadzones, rainforest deforestation, species extinction and climate change – more so than all of the transport systems combined including planes, trains, trucks, and cars.
Many, even including leading environmental campaigners, are surprised animal agriculture is one of the leading causes of climate change and question what vested interests are keeping this so well hidden when it’s something we all need to know about.

Greta has declared she has stopped eating meat, dairy and eggs – urging her family to do the same, saying: “You say you love your children above all else and yet you are stealing their future in front of their very eyes.”

A group of campaigners spread the school girl’s message to the masses, with giant banners spanning 50 cities across the UK: “Greta may stand at less than 5ft tall but we plan to make her voice heard across every UK city with giant banners.

Switching to a plant‐based diet and vegan lifestyle is the single, most powerful thing we can do. And it’s something we can all do something about now, without waiting for the system to wake up.

There are incredible vegan ranges in the supermarkets now from plant milks to vegan burgers and ice cream. We can eat to beat climate change and protect future generations”.

The banners were also inspired by Joseph Poore who says ‘With moving towards greener transportation we’re reducing emissions, but with moving away from animal agriculture we’re reducing emissions AND freeing up land which can store carbon’.

Greta adds: “You are never too small to make a difference”.

The campaigners initially made 25 banners with 25 winning cities chosen to display them.

However, they were inundated with requests for more banners with more cities coming forward so they eventually doubled it with now 50 UK cities taking part, and more voicing their interest.

The launch date was July 27th, with many cities displaying their banners earlier with huge success. The group says: “People are taking photos of them, sharing and learning about going vegan to beat climate change.”

Veganism is rapidly growing in the UK and around the world with 1000% increase in veganism last year, with most major supermarkets and restaurants now offering an increased range of vegan products from plant‐ based burgers to cheese, milk, ice cream and snacks.

According to the most recent scientifically backed data, we only have a few years to stop the worst effects of climate change.

#banner4change #ClimateCrisis
We think here in the UK we won’t be affected, but we are seeing increasing forms of extreme weather; from unusually hot months which were previously unheard of, wild fires, to flooding...

#bannerforchange #ClimateBreakdown
All of these events will eventually result in climate migration as people are forced to flee on mass because of extreme weather and as areas become inhabitable.

#banner4change #ClimateActionNow
#ExtinctionRebellion statement: “Finding ways to radically transform how land is used and how we feed ourselves is essential as industrial animal agriculture and factory farming are driving climate breakdown and ecological collapse.”
