The issue with tech bros goes to the heart of what is wrong with the tech ecosystem in Nigeria and beyond. The scalability and eye-watering numbers involved after just 3 or 4 years of work convinces a dudebro that he is in fact a genius, as against Dafe, 28, Regular Local Man.
Unlike David, 29, running a copywriting agency and destroying his health steadily with deadlines and late nights forever and ever, Dafe might only ever actually work for half a decade and then IPO or divest for $10 jillion.

Dafe's entire claim to genius is a 7 - 9-figure bank balance, a tech platform he founded, now employing hundreds that he no longer has the capacity to run, and a verified Twitter handle with 100,000 impressionable university student followers hanging on to his every word.
Dafe also gets invited to speak at TED talks and lots of "How to be a Genius Creator of the Future World Like Me" conferences. In his mind, he is Nikola Tesla, Lee Kuan Yew and Che Guevara all rolled in one.

Dafe is not a genius. Far from it. He is simply quite good at development using Python, Javascript or Rails, and his preparedness met a (very fortunate) market opportunity in the still-virgin world of tech.

Unfortunately because the world worships money, status and blue check marks, and because he is too young to be surrounded by anything but fawning admirers and hangers-on, Dafe didn't get the memo and his ego grows from the size of a football field to a small asteroid.
The world is currently suffering a plague of Dafe's and Damore's from Yaba to San Francisco. These profoundly mediocre men with more money than life experience are trying to recreate humanity in the image of their Reddit/Chan poster culture.
Dafe has no business being any kind of "cultural leader" while still a profoundly ignorant, narcissistic passive-aggressive misogynist with delusions of grandeur. Find better role models.
