[Thread] 1/ Most top trends in Saudi and other Arabic countries have been spammed consistently by Islamic State propaganda. The volume, although it variable, is huge. In my layover in Montreal I analysed 2,464 tweets on the trending hashtag "قبلً الحلم18" to see the damage
2/ Around 850 of the tweets on this hashtag were produced within an hour by 24 different accounts. The most prolific produced around 131 tweets in that hour. They all use the app @IFTTT and all just post grisly propaganda videos with a tweet full of hashtags

@IFTTT 4/ are real shouldn't we be concerned? Below you can see tweets from the past hour. Those in orange are the Islamic state propaganda tweets. They average about 14 tweets per minute, sometimes reaching 55 per minute. Quite extraordinary for such crude bots!
