Trump assassinates Qassem Suleimani, destabilising the entire Middle East & putting British lives at risk. 1/ A reckless geopolitical act, probably simply driven by Trump's crisis of domestic popularity and impeachment... that's the scariest thing...
2/ The left should shed no tears for Suleimani: co-ordinator of mass murder, torture, rape and the suppression of left and democratic forces across the region. Welcome to a world in which unaccountable thugs kill each other via missile strike - who suffers? The people...
3/ The Trump administration has literally no coherent foreign policy faced with the geopolitical triumphs of Putin/Assad/Iran, which themselves reflect the rising strength of China-Russia in world politics... that's why UK/EU must stay out of this...
4/ That means: no war with Iran; no support for US aggression against Iran; get the Royal Navy out of the Persian Gulf and stop supporting/arming US proxies like Bahrain/Saudi...
5/ For the Labour leadership contenders this is a litmus test: a major nuclear-armed state illegally and unilaterally assassinates the a war criminal in charge of a network of repressive regimes, destabilising the world: No War With Iran.
6/ If you think this is all happening "far away" - yet another round of Middle East chaos, the spectator sport of the mainstream media - think again. The USA's geopolitical weakness and instability is moving the crisis very close to home...
7/ This is what actually happens when govt is run by "weirdos and misfits" (TM Dominic Cummings)... they can kill Suleimani but they can't stop Turkey's land grabs in Libya and the E. Mediterranean, or Russia's mindgames in the Baltic/Nordics...
8/ The most rational fear this morning has to be for American democracy. Trump will not just escalate war rhetoric - if the crisis escalates he will seek justification to cancel the 2020 election and override Congress... as @MMFlint predicted in #Farenheit119
@MMFlint 9/ Finally: what unites Trump and Suleimani - their own people are in revolt against them. That's why wars happen when dictators falter. Its as darkly comical as Bismarck vs Louis Napoleon: the youth of the world want peace, social justice and a multilateral order.
