Let's look at confirmation bias. As you know this is where people find stuff to support their own agenda or opinion. Leave voters were provided with lots of lies & memes to help them "believe" they were right... #FBPE 1/
This misinformation was of course thrown at them by lying politicians and lying media. They had zero remorse at lying & there are no controls of the lies the press can tell. Forget the faux apology corrections. The damage is done. 2/
However the key to conditioning people was to make them think they had found the information themselves. It had to be surreptitiously placed in front of them to find. That's where covert targeting comes in where people's online world is laced with lies they think are facts. 3/
We know how it works... software the reads your computer, cookies etc, that's just the official bit let alone the other software roaming around accessing your life. And of course social networks sell your data. 4/
And so a person sits on Facebook and magically stories appear to confirm in that person's mind that EU refs stop them from walking straight and Alaska has no gravity. And they believe it. And this then becomes their world, a fantasy land. 5/
I'm sure it's happened to you however as an example over the weekend I watched some Prince videos. People forget what a fucking great guitarist he was. Of course you know what happens... suddenly everywhere is Prince, FB, instagram, YouTube "suggestions." 6/
So because I searched for Prince it shoves Prince at me everywhere. Now think about the person that searches for anti EU rants, pro brexshit bollocks. They will be & are bombarded with lies, in some cases vicious & horrific imagery that etches into their mind. 7/
And now imagine that person stepping following a seemingly cute meme that clicks through to a fascist site. This is radicalization. We've seen them on the streets... 8/
So what is happening is that far from the internet opening up their world it is in fact making it ever smaller and importantly by giving them the illusion it is getting bigger because of the sense of freewill associated with "discovering" new information. 9/
And this is how people are conditioned. As you know I have said many times Brexit is not the will of the people, it is the conditioning of people to believe it is their will. 10/
I'm sure you know how this happens technologically... layers and layers of algorithms that select stuff based on your behaviour. Which begs another question, why do they exist? 11/
The bottom line is of course to make money. They are not their to be useful. They are there to keep you there so that those sites can chuck more advertising at you. It is all about how can we make you buy something. That's why they exist. 12/
And the algorithmic machine will keep doing it to everyone no matter whether its music, fashion or political extremism. Stepping back then.. capitalism is feulling the spread of extremism and hate. If anyone doubts that just type some choice words into FB. 13/
Once again one must draw conclusions about the functioning and failings of capitalism in the 21st century, and how it spreads disinformation and limits knowledge, awareness & truth. 14/
Far from spreading enlightenment the internet is also a weapon used by oppression. People who's world was already small will be living in a world that is even smaller... convinced they are right as they scurry about in their mice's maze. #FBPE 🙏✌🏼
