It's a little hard to believe that Republicans (who have been watching colleagues villify Schiff for months) were A) Being persuaded by his oratory, and B) Were super-persuaded until he quoted from a CBS story that they don't believe is accurate.

Given how rapidly new developments have come out that have supported Democrats’ case, it’s kind of incredible to think Republicans might allow it to continue for another five days, especially when they have the votes to end it.
Five days ago we didn’t know what was in John Bolton’s book, for example.

Haven't had a chance to dredge this up yet, but here's what Rep. Sensenbrenner (R-Wisc.) -- an impeachment manager in the Clinton trial in 1999 -- said about the need for witnesses at the time.
"Should the President's counsel dispute the facts as laid out by the House of Representatives, the Senate will need to hear from live witnesses in order to reach a proper and fair judgment," he said.
