Trump’s followers clothe themselves in his name and iconography as a means of supplementing their identity. Like Trump’s bullying persona, all of it conceals a deep, deep insecurity and weakness.

Fascism attracts followers because it offers a solution to fear and paranoia, a means of lassoing death for personal use. It’s a poisonous undertaking, but there’s a reason fascist movements percolate among insecure, lost populations who feel they’re losing power.
If you wear Trump gear, if you drape yourself in MAGA wear, you’re trying to tell the world you’re strong enough not to care about the cruelty and brutality, that you’re tougher than the poisonous environment and tough enough to stomach authoritarianism. It’s overcompensation.
There’s a reason men are wearing Trump gear, faux military dress, shirts with aggressive slogans and iconography. They’re absolutely terrified and are trying desperately to convince the world they’re not. It’s classic overcompensation. And this is how fascism takes root.
