Nate was present when police arrived at a house & Kerry Spencer started shooting. Nate wasn't hit; 3 officers died. Spencer confessed, saying it was a split-second decision. He's on #DeathRow. Nate was later convicted as an accomplice, tho the killer says he's "100% innocent."
My students are on #DeathRow or serving sentences of no parole following convictions as teens, some at 13. I don't know Kerry Spencer, but his letter is very much like those I receive regularly--smart, competent, compassionate.

Today both Rep @JustinAmash & Rev MLKing 3rd called for Nate's execution to be stayed to allow a jury to hear Kerry Spencer's testimony. Nate's family is poor & his appointed lawyers missed multiple appeal deadlines. Lawyers came to his aid when he was given an execution date.

Tonight, a man who confessed to killing 3 men was on his knees in "fervent prayer," asking God to stop "another innocent man" from being executed.

And back in the Governor's Mansion, @GovernorKayIvey relaxed after a big day at Auburn, where she was smiles all around. Check the pics out. She posted several on twitter. Presumably her entire staff was with her. Calls to her office went straight to voicemail all day long.
Gov Ivey is white & rich. Nate Woods is black & poor. But the big difference between the two is that Kay Ivey conspired to kill a man, and Nate Woods did not.
Woods was executed by the state of Alabama. He was pronounced dead at 9:01 p.m.
