So tired of white people saying it was rigged when their candidate doesn’t get enough votes from black people to win. It’s a white supremacist mentality. Stop blaming voter fraud or the DNC when the biggest targets of voter suppression simply outvoted you.
The most obviously racist form of this mentality is thinking black people don’t deserve to participate in democracy. Then there’s the attitude that it’s ok as long as they agree with you. But it’s also white supremacist to just ignore black voters’ power and valid motivations.
That last one might not sound racist, but it sure isn’t anti-racist. It justifies the indifference and obliviousness that come with privilege. It uses that indifference to let you tell yourself you’re the real victim here. That’s white supremacy in action.
And one thing about grievance politics in the hands of white people (or men) is how it encourages these attitudes. It rewards the pre-existing thinking that your views and priorities are the right ones. Less-privileged people with different ideas get ignored or blamed.
Another way to describe grievance politics in the hands of privileged people is aggrieved entitlement. It’s toxic and dangerous, and it’s absolutely encouraged by the media and our white male supremacist society.
If white male supremacy is about white men abusing power, aggrieved entitlement is part of the abuse culture that enables it. You’re not the abuser- you’re the abused. You’re the real victims here. rantt.com/brett-kavanaug…
That’s what the myth of voter fraud is about - justifying voter suppression by blaming the victim. I think that’s pretty obvious to most of the left. But there are some pretty big echoes in the way most black voters get lumped in with centrists and The Establishment.
If your view of The Establishment tracks with the voting tendencies of black Americans, you’ve got a pretty messed up definition of The Establishment.
There’s not just one Establishment. But if you want to lump it all together, it’s rich, male, straight, cis, abled, Christian white supremacy. And too many privileged people on the left are only really fighting the parts that affect them, and not the parts they benefit from.
When white people claim that system is rigged against them, to help the candidate with more black votes, they’re saying “the rigging benefits you more than me” to people the system is vastly more rigged against. It’s reversing who benefits more from the abuse.
