BREAKING: The final ACA results were released by the Trump Admin today. They even did a tweet storm.

Talking to folks. Will give the real deal breakdown shortly.

Follow if interested. 1/
The Admin tweetstorm was all politics— saying they did a good job but that the law isn’t working.

They (the @cmsgov staff) did an excellent job. Even as their bosses tried to derail the effort all year. It is amazing how well the law is working.

This is my tweetstorm. 2/
Exchange results 2018:

-Trump team would have liked the number signing up for coverage to be under 6 million
-They failed. Almost 12 million people signed up for coverage
-I used to run this in the last two years of Obama. If we were there it would have been 14 million.

Think of it this way.

Trump cut enrollment period in half, cut marketing budget 90%, purposely raised premiums and . . .

Enrollment was down just 4% from the prior year. 4/
If we had run another 90 days, did proper outreach, not butchered the last 10 days of the prior open enrollment, to told insurers it was dead and going to be repealed and worked hard with uninsured communities (our job), 2 million more people would be covered today. 5/
Here’s some more data, somehow not in the Trump Admin tweetstorm:

Average monthly premiums were down 16% (from $106 to $89/month) for subsidy eligle consumers (83% of them).

This is the largest decrease since the creation of the Fed market. 6/
This happened in some part because Trump tried to do the exact opposite by not paying promised payments and the states outsmarted him. So his plan didn’t work. 😒 7/
For the first time in exchange history, the portion of 0-34 year olds decreased— by 2%.

This is the Trump Administration working against its own interest by decreasing marketing.

Note to next administration: these $ are not taxpayer $ but insurer fees. Increase outreach! 8/
More people selected gold plans (3%) and bronze (6%) because Admin forced the other plans (silver) to be more expensive.

Interesting tidbit: Admin points out that these people are users of free stuff and implying they are getting more than they deserve. 9/
More people actively renewed their policies by both percentage and number than ever. 10/
Admin tweetstorm suggests that consumers need more affordable options: perfect. Reduce drug costs and support a public option (just like in Medicare). 11/
Admin tweetstorm suggests we need to reduce costs for the “forgotten” unsubsidized populations. Perfect— support no strings attached reinsurance like Alaska and Minnesota did and brought their rates down. 12/
Let’s not exploit problems, let’s solve them. It’s what you’re paid for.

Congrats to the @CMSGov team and everyone else who works hard to get Americans covered. You are changing lives. /end
