The biggest problem for #GOP in #AZ is among self-identified Moderates/Leaners & Hispanic/Latinos. Ideas like this from a long-shot GOP candidate saying we annex AZ’s largest trading partner all the while wanting to still build the wall is not helping.

Plus, I literally heard this same candidate address the crowd at an event alleging the Democrats STOLE the election from the GOP in the ‘18 #AZSEN race. His evidence was that Ducey won by a huge margin against Garcia although McSally lost by a much closer margin... Part 1/3
Then proceeded to say that the primary reason he is challenging McSally is bc she “raised the white flag” when conceding the election to Sinema. He blamed the electoral loss to massive voter fraud by recently elected Democratic Maricopa County Recorder @Adrian_Fontes ..

I think one can be in favor of an official impeachment inquiry while also respecting the dilemma Nancy Pelosi faces.

She knows that Donald Trump is a criminal, yet she needs to hold on to the House in the next election.
Nobody fought harder than Speaker Pelosi to take back the House.

She knows that a Democratic House is all that stands in the way of the right-wing destroying this country for a century in this era of Trump.

With climate change and healthcare these are life-and-death stakes.
And right now Speaker Pelosi foresees a plausible future in which the impeachment of Donald Trump backfires on Democrats and results in Donald Trump's re-election, a Republican House, a Republican Senate, and a 6-3 Supreme Court.

It's a frightening thought.

Senate Republicans and @realDonaldTrump continue to attack the Affordable Care Act. Now the Trump administration is trying to strike the entire ACA down. These Republican senators (all are up for re-election) are not taking your access to health care seriously:
David Perdue (R-GA), Thom Tillis (R-NC), and Cory Gardner (R-CO) have voted over and over again to risk protections for pre-existing conditions and make health care coverage more expensive. #gasen #ncsen #cosen
John Cornyn (R-TX) has voted over and over again to risk protections for pre-existing conditions and make health care coverage more expensive. And don’t forget, Cornyn was in charge of rounding up the votes to dismantle the ACA in 2017. #txsen

Some closing thoughts on #AZSen. First off, people have been wondering when AZ, w its growing Latino population would start acting like CA. It may have this election -- but not in the stereotypical way.....
AZ is further to the right than CA was when Ds took it over in 1998. Sinema won not by wooing Latinos but by targeting white women, often Republicans. She backed Kate's law and other tough-on-immigrant-crime Trumpy measures (though she never went full Trump, always backed CIR)
Ironically there are some parallels with CA circa 1998. Ds came back not with a firebreathing lefty but moderate gubernatorial candidate Gray Davis who persuaded white centrists, He won as CA voters also outlawed bilingual education and still supported anti-immigrant Prop 187.

Visiting NV/AZ, I was struck by the divergent Dem campaigns.

Rosen ran as an unabashed liberal, trashing Trump, rallying w/Bernie Sanders.

Sinema ran like a centrist, seldom mentioning Trump, downplaying cultural issues like immigration/guns.

Both won.

The latest in Senate 2018 flips 👇

• INDIANA: GOP gain
• MISSOURI: GOP gain
• NORTH DAKOTA: GOP gain

• NEVADA: DEM gain
• ARIZONA: DEM gain

And then there was Florida.
Will be interesting to see if Senator Sinema votes more like Joe Manchin or Jon Tester.

She said she’d have opposed Brett Kavanaugh, so there’s one hint.

The news that @marceelias is running the Nelson legal effort in #FLSen is not surprising but shows that Dems are taking this very seriously. Thread from @alivitali here —>
Elias also is involved in #AZSen, where — sorry I buried the lede — Sinema now is in the lead. —>

If you're watching election results tonight, here's a breakdown of what I'm going to be watching for in the race for Congress as the numbers come in -->
Here are the magic numbers to keep in mind tonight:

Democrats need to flip 23 SEATS in order to win back the House.

Democrats need to flip 2 SEATS in order to win back the Senate.
The first exit polls will land at 5:00pm so we'll have some ideas about makeup of the electorate compared to previous years, etc. The first actual races close at 6:00pm: KY-6 will be the one to watch, with an eye on IN-9, but we won't read *too* much into these.

We've seen Arizona indies flirt with the idea of voting for Democratic candidates statewide, only to swing back in the final stretch. Sinema needs a huge margin. It would be the first time since 2008, when Obama won them by just 51 to 46. He went on to lose them to Mitt Romney.
Obama went on to lose AZ indies to Romney by nearly the same margin he had previously carried them against McCain, 51% to 45%. Trump carried indies in AZ, 47% to 44%. Flake won them by just 46% to 45%.
But for Sinema to overcome that early vote lead, considering what vote is left on the table, she would need a historic margin no Democrat has received among indies AND a monster turnout that favors Democrats. Judging by the data, there's no such evidence she'll get it.

“It's pretty amazing, right? ... I think Republicans are more unified than I've seen since I've been in this new combat zone," ⁦@MarthaMcSally⁩ said in an interview. "I've been fighting stereotypes my whole life too, right? washingtonexaminer.com/news/congress/…

#AZSen: Kyrsten Sinema rose from an impoverished upbringing to Congress. She is a strong advocate for reproductive rights and could become the first openly bisexual senator in U.S. history.

#azsen Thread: I was a high school student in NYC, sitting on a school bus, when Omar Abdel Rahman’s followers bombed the World Trade Center in ‘93. After that, Rahman & his lawyer Lynne Stewart were frequently in the news.
Rahman’s recorded Brooklyn sermons were distributed in Egypt and inspired numerous terrorist attacks that killed thousands of people. Rahman issued a fatwa encouraging followers to rob banks & kill Jews in USA. Stewart said Rahman was “the only hope for change” in Egypt.
By ‘96 I was a college student and had a summer job with a Wall Street firm at Tower 2 of the World Trade Center. From the 37th Floor I could see the Statue of Liberty from one window and see the Empire State Building from another window. After ‘93 security was TIGHT at the WTC.

I am humbled and honored to stand before you, for the very first time, as your Republican nominee for the United States Senate.
It is tempting to celebrate. But let’s keep in mind: this is not our objective…our mission is not fulfilled until we win this seat in 70 days.
And candidly, it is difficult to celebrate anything this week as we mourn the loss of Senator McCain and prepare to honor him here in Arizona and in DC before he is laid to rest at Annapolis.

Mike Pence just publicly congratulated Martha McSally for winning the #AZSen GOP primary.

None of the ballot counts have been announced in that race.

Pence deleted the tweet, but here it is. NYT live results showed 0% of AZ precincts reporting when he sent it.
McSally held the lead from day 1, so this was a safe tweet for Pence's team to prepare. But to prematurely fire it off to more than 3 million followers, in a year when election integrity is front-and-center, was a pretty significant mistake. Not a conspiracy, mind you. A mistake.
PS- The app I use for Twitter, called Tweeten, does not show any verification check marks on opened tweets (Ex: The WaPo tweet below). McSally congrats came from Pence's campaign account, which has 3.32 million followers.

NEW @CAPAction Memo: On Pre-Existing Condition Protections, Reconciling Rhetoric with Reality Proves Difficult for GOP Senate Candidates. #INSEN #WVSEN #MOSEN #AZSEN #NVSEN #FLSEN #NDSEN #TXSEN #PASEN #MTSEN
2/ GOP candidates are running for office saying that they support protections for people with pre-existing conditions, but lawsuits, administrative actions, and legislation supported by these candidates could lead to these individuals being denied coverage or charged more.
3/ Beyond lawsuits and votes that explicitly undermined these protections, candidates do not support pre-existing condition protections if they refuse to endorse the policy levers that make these protections possible: guaranteed issue, community rating, and EHBs.
