good morning☀️happy Sunday! Today on #Insiders are Guardian politics editor Katharine Murphy, ninefax (AFR) economics editor John Kehoe and ninefax (Age) economic corro Shane Wright.
The interview is with shadow Treasurer Dr Jim Chalmers.

the “build up” (strategic government leaks) to the budget has even overshadowed by “stranded Australians” stories, Speers opens. #Insiders
the Treasurer does not like it being called a spend-a-thon, Speers tells us gullibly, but the threat of jail is drowning out his messaging (which is telling targeted voters the government will give them free money). #Insiders

the vaccine rollout is delayed by safety concerns, says Speers, and babbles about national cabinet without telling us Morrison is using the states to deflect and spread the blame for his fuckups. Headline economics figures too. #Insiders
the montage starts with Holgate, which Speers framed as the prime ministers woman problem because as every woman knows it is all about Scott Morrison #Insiders

Yesterday, I asked the @ANAO_Australia to consider investigating @PeterDutton_MP’s #saferseatsrorts scandal.

This is why it is important 🧵 👇

theguardian.com/australia-news…
1. Schools, churches local govts & other groups from across 🇦🇺 applied for community safety grants from @ScottMorrisonMP and @PeterDutton_MP to keep their communities safe

Grant applications take a lot of time - many groups spent days carefully preparing their applications
2. Community safety experts from the Dept of Home Affairs then carefully assessed these applications & told @PeterDutton_MP what communities were most at risk & needed help

Communities wanted to buy things like CCTV cameras, build security fences to keep them safe

What are you likely to get if you vote LNP at the next election?

You may end up getting a pay cut. They'll be emboldened to implement industrial relations reform (aka Workchoices 2).

What will you be able to do about it after the election? Nothing.

Put LNP last on every ballot

You may end up having your superannuation obliterated. Too bad if you were looking forward to having a comfortable retirement.

Hope you enjoy working until you drop.

Sport Australia has redacted the entire list of #sportsrorts projects whose agreements were signed after the notional 30 June 2019 deadline. All they give is dates, the rest is subject to public interest immunity claim. #auspol
So we won't know which the 290 ineligible projects that got funding were - see this story:
theguardian.com/australia-news…
To clarify - this isn't a freedom of information request, this is an answer to a question on notice to the Senate sports grants inquiry. Still, terrible, and their response to FOI probs would've been even worse.

IDK how many feel as I do that the Morrison lead government will not bring out #Budget2021
For all thinking people it appears the we are now in an undeclared Federal election campaign
The impact of the Opposition`s attack on all of Morrison`s failures
2
has finally cut through
Media cannot find positives to promote this LNP government any further
A further eroding of the Democratic process in shutting down debate in #HoR question time cannot be defended by the #MSM, nor can it be glossed over
3
Also, the impact of the new US Biden admin with it`s #NetZeroBy2050 & return to the #ParisAgreement will see Morrison not only further sidelined by global powers it will see him totally isolated in #ClimateChangeDenialism

The impact on reducing #covidstimulus

Just over a year ago the #Greens Federal ICAC passed the @AuSenate with only the Morrison government voting against it. If there was any desire to establish a Federal #ICAC from the Morrison government they would have brought our bill on for a vote, but they still haven’t #AusPol

Phil Gaetjens has just confirmed to #sportsrorts inquiry that he didn't check if Bridget McKenzie acted lawfully- he says it wasn't his job (it was)- says it was Attorney General's (but the AG didn't check McKenzie was acting lawfully)

Hey @sussanley

Today you announced another $200 million for recycling

I've got a few questions for you....just want to make sure I've got my facts right.

This announcement was made at The Pact Group, right?
Here's a pic of you, Trevor Evans & Sanjay Dayal at Pact

#auspol
Now, is that the same Pact Group that recorded a shock $320 million half-year loss in Feb 2019?

What's their annual report looking like this year?

Where are PACT getting the hundreds of millions of dollars from for this investment?

remember when press gallery journos spent the election campaign saying the Morrison government has no agenda? No climate policy? That was convenient cover for the Morrison government agenda of promoting coal ahead of renewables.

theguardian.com/environment/20…
remember Turnbull, who lost his job as leader of the Liberal Party twice over climate policy, ran on a jobs n growth platform. Morrison has destroyed tens of thousands of jobs in my sector alone and is running on a jobs platform (the Liberals gave up on growth years ago).
‘existing Morrison government policies’ - which are not nothing.
The consistent construction of dangerous Morrison government climate policy settings as “no policy” is a microcosm of how the dangerous Liberal Party policy platform is presented as neutral government action.

good morning🌞and happy Sunday! Today on #Insiders are Annabelle Crabb from the ABC, Mark Riley from Stokes Seven and murdoch man Greg Sheridan. The interview is with shadow foreign affairs minister Senator Penny Wong. This thread is not fact-checked.
and we’re off. Half as many people are on jobkeeper as the government previously “thought” Speers tells us. He means as the government said. He calls it a “bungle” and follows the government storyline of focusing on Treasury estimates and business form-filling. #Insiders
still on government messaging, Speers says it is “not entirely bad news”. He then veers into the second of only two sides, because political journalism is basic and is not news reporting. This is to speculate about what should “the” money be spent on. #Insiders

It may seem slightly trivial but it's a highly unusual thing to do when signing a legal document. Official docs are to be signed in blue or black ink

With some normalcy returning to the parliament, the scandal surrounding a pre-election cash splash on community sporting clubs is once again bubbling to the surface. #abc730 @latingle #sportsrorts #auspol
Paper trail now shows PM’s office instructing McKenzie to get its approval on grants; & that @ScottMorrisonMP office intervened to have specific applications approved; & that PM’s office told McKenzie’s office to discuss grants with @LiberalAus machine. @latingle #abc730 #auspol
That not only gives the @ScottMorrisonMP a case to answer but runs against his statement to parliament in February that it was @senbmckenzie who had the power to authorise grants. @latingle #abc730 #auspol #sportsrorts

If we loose the entire conference season - as looks likely - we are going to have to find alternatives. Perhaps @AcademicsLaw and @legalscholars could explore virtual conferences/workshops this year - with the advantage of inherent international collaboration
Given the theme of the @AcademicsLaw conference is the future of the legal academy, this seems particularly appropriate
I would love to have an e-workshop on twitter and the law - I know there was a US conference on this theme a few years back -i think @lawprofblawg was involved

I've been wondering why the Board of #SportsAustralia never spoke up about #sportsrorts?

So, I decided to take a closer look at who's who on the Board.

It's made up of a mix of ex-Libs/Nats, mining/banking/finance/media execs, public servants & some sporty ppl
🐝
#auspol
It's difficult to determine when some of these Board members were originally appointed many years ago, but all have been appointed or reappointed by Greg Hunt or Bridget McKenzie
🐝
#auspol #sportsrorts #SportAustralia
Interestingly, Greg Hunt also sits on the Cabinet Expenditure Review Committee who oversaw & increased the funding for the Community Sports Infrastructure Grants program (CSIG) or #sportsrorts
