My biggest concern is that leaders in Trump’s white evangelical base will take up his “dangerous time for men” mantle and be even more disinclined to believe assault/abuse victims than they already are, especially if a victim comes forward about a powerful leader.
If a teenage girl came to me and said her youth pastor assaulted her but she had no proof, at this point I could not in good faith assure her she would be taken seriously. I hate that. I hate that I feel less inclined to report assault today than I did last week.
Already hearing rumblings of “putting systems in place to protect against false accusations.” Only around 2% of reports of assault end up being false. Meanwhile, most victims don’t report their assaults because they don’t think they will be believed.
