1. I never really knew anything about the PKK until 2014 when @StateDept announced the @PYD #YPG #YPJ were on our team. Soon after that a period of ceasefire let the issue remain in the background. Then the PKK took credit for an attack that later it said it had not really done.
2. It was too late. Erdogan took advantage of it and after the purge in 2016 the blood lust took command over the Turkish psyche and domestic politics. I've been trying to learn the factual basis for recently putting rewards on the three PKK leaders. So far @StateDept dead air.
3. I have no doubt the Constitution authorizes laws that allow listing of foreign military groups that we sanction and work with an ally to defeat. The power is there. But the anti-terrorist statutes are or should be limited to actual terrorist organization. A group seeking to
4. end an apartheid based on historic ethnic oppression and sanctioned destruction of indigenous culture is not within the anti-terrorist laws as I understand them. The PKK operate mostly in Kurdish areas. They have civilian support. They're a anti-govt military force. Unlawful
5. in #Turkey and subject to Turkish laws but IMO the group does not fit within a definition of Foreign Terrorists Organization unless I'm missing some facts. We know what Al-#Qaeda and #ISIS did to get listed. Who without looking it up can say what the #PKK did to get listed?
6. What has it done recently to justify the continued listing? When all others fled the PKK scrambled to Sinjar to save the Yazidi. If that is an act of a terrorist organization what does that say for all those who sat back and did nothing like the US?

The Kurds aren't going away. Turkey needs to accept that they are increasing their population while Turkey's non-Kurdish birth rate is in decline. Peace is the only rational way forward. We need to work towards peace in Rojava,
