Just days after 2 Su-34 tactical bombers collided and crashed in the Far East, a Russian Tu-22M3 crashed today while attempting to land at the Olenegorsk airfield in Murmansk. 3 crew members died and the fourth is in critical condition.

This specific bomber was built in 1986 and overhauled by the 150th Aircraft Repair Plant in Kaliningrad in 2012. The initial reports point to bad weather conditions as a contributing factor.
Based off the overhaul detail, BMPD notes that this must be the Tu-22M3 (tail red # 35) of 40th Mixed Aviation Regiment. There is another Tu-22M3 with a red tail # 35, but it is located in Kaluga with the 52nd Guards Heavy Bomber Aviation Regiment.

This is the 5th Tu-22M3 lost since 2000 (including 1 during the 2008 war in Georgia), and the 3rd over the last 3 years.
In July 2004: a Tu-22M3 crashed during landing due to technical problems.
In June 2016 and Sep 2017, Tu-22M3s were lost after rolling off the runway.
Photos of the crashed Tu-22M3 (red tail # 35). Some sources are claiming it was armed with Kh-22N anti-ship missiles when it crashed.

Notably, there was also damage between the cockpit and the rest of the fuselage from the 2017 accident when a Tu-22M3 (red 20, registration # RF-94233) of the 326th Heavy Bomber Aviation Division overshot the runway at Shaykovka airfield. theaviationist.com/2017/09/15/rus…
