Somehow, @paulkrugman got the impression that “MMT” says we can get to M4A without the need for any offsets. My impression is that he‘s actually arguing with non-economists who say things online.
I recently had an opportunity to explain my own thinking on this very question with @ezraklein and @jasonfurman. Jason shares Krugman’s opinion that you need enough new revenue to fully offset any new spending with M4A. #PAYGO
I responded that no one had done the hard work to try to arrive at the right answer but that I suspect it is not 1-1. Bottom line is that MMT *economists* have approached this question from a serious place, and it is simply wrong to claim MMT says, “Print Your Healthcare.”

A: Yes. The federal government can afford to buy whatever is for sale in its own currency.
Q: Are you saying the government can just "print the money" to pay for new spending?
A: Is there any other way?
Q: Is there another way? Yes, you can raise taxes!
A: That's not how it works. Taxes remove some of the money the gov spends into the economy. You could spend & tax the same amount. But the gov normally spends more than it taxes so that the economy can keep the extra dollars.

Reward Risk Ratio = Average Profit Per Trade / Average Loss Per Trade

If Success Rate is 0.5 and Reward Risk 2, Then

Expectancy = 2 x 0.5 =1

For Making Profit, Expectancy Should Be Positive Number (2/n)
To Calculate Expectancy, You Need Defined System With Rules To Get Success Rate and Reward Risk. If You Have No System To Take Decisions, You Are Hanging In Thin Air and Will Never No Whether You Will Keep Making Or Loosing Money In Future (3/n)

1) There’s a lot of BS about @nntaleb’s Black Swan, antifragility & skin in da game. Let’s take the gloves off and get into trouble.
2) When the Swan flew out, it was immediately butchered by imbeciles not understanding that you can’t predict the unpredictable.

That is the point – and an IQ filter NNT himself proly did not expect.
3) In any complex domain – life! – the Blackest Swan is always skulking around the corner. You know it’s coming, but you don’t know what where when. You can't tame what you've never even conceived of.

#New PA cong. map increases D chance of winning the House majority by 4%. They only need a 6.8% generic ballot margin now (down from 7.7) to be favored.

Diff. will be closer to 10% in Nov when uncertainty from polls is ⬇️. Redraw is a very big deal.

One major reason the new PA map is such a big gain for Democrats is that it solidifies, not just tips, PA districts in Philly burbs. Also creates one additional vulnerable R district. (Easily seen in this map made by @JMilesColeman)
My forecasting model will have new PA map in the near future. This is not just a simple switch; it’s a coding redesign, restructuring of input, & drawing new geographic files. Takes a while (for me, a student).
