I am writing to express my profound disappointment in you. Not as a person because I have never met you, but as a so-called elected “representative” of #WeThePeople. Your recent assault and mockery of #ForThePeople HR-1 Bill finally prompted me to write.
You swore an oath to uphold the #Constitution, which states in the 15th Amendment:
1. The right of citizens of the United States to vote SHALL NOT BE DENIED OR ABRIDGED by the U.S. or by any State on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude
I know bills are complicated and may sometimes contain elements that the opposing party finds objectionable. But you’re not even interested in debating or improving the package. By not doing so, you're betraying #WeThePeople but also that God you claim to revere.
Your “I get to decide what we vote on” response is an insult to America. If you really cared about #WeThePeople you would have, at a MINIMUM, given us a respectful answer as to why you are against it, and not a dismissive, disdainful, and taunting bully response.
If you really thought this bill is a “loser”, you'd bring it to the floor for a vote. Just like you’re doing with the #NewGreenDeal.
Don’t you want to protect #WeThePeople from rampant #corruption?
Don’t you want ALL of We the People to exercise our right to vote?
77% of ALL Americans – INCLUDING #Republicans – believe our system is broken and unfair, and want to reduce #corruption and the influence of special interests. Yet your party’s hysterical misrepresentation of HR-1 is comical, if it weren’t so tragic.
•Once felons have served their sentence, they are entitled to ALL constitutional rights.
•Matching funds would be financed through fines levied on companies caught VIOLATING FEDERAL LAW.
•Automatic voter registration INCREASES the accuracy of voter rolls.
Let’s be honset about why you reject this bill: you’re afraid of #WeThePeople.
You've betrayed your oath of office because it's far easier and MUCH more lucrative to represent corporate “constituents”. Giving us ALL the vote jeapardizes that cushy arrangement.
Your remarkable assault on our voting righs – gerrymandering, closing polling places, purge of voter rolls, voter ID, and yes, #electionFRAUD – make it clear you believe the only way your party can possibly stay in power is to not allow us to vote at all.
There should be nothing partisan about a push to make the American political system more accessible and accountable to #WeThePeople. Yet you have made it so.
Otherwise you'd be open to discussing legislation to address #ethics, #corruption, and #VotingRights.
