If you take a gander at the replies to some of @BetoORourke's recent tweets, you might notice a bit of a theme: the phrase "Beto is a furry" turn ups over. And over. And over.

We downloaded tweets containing "Beto is a furry" or "Beto O'Rourke is a furry", yielding 3957 original tweets from 2362 accounts. All but two were tweeted since the beginning of 2019. Let's see where this got started. . .
The third tweet (Jan 23 2019), featuring a video of a younger O'Rourke singing Ramones songs in a sheep mask, seems to be the catalyst for the trend. The first tweet from October 2018 was posted by @AubreyLaVentana, an account that references several mass shooters on its profile.
Retweet/reply/quote tweet network for "Beto [O'Rourke] is a furry". Almost all replies are directed at @BetoORourke. The activity appears to be driven by @ComfortablySmug, which in a total coincidence is selling "Beto is a furry" T-shirts.
What do the accounts tweeting "Beto is a furry" look like? They appear to be a mixed bag, linking both mainstream and conspiracy-oriented media. The hashtags they use include #MAGA, #YangGang, #Beto2020, #Yang2020, #Trump2020, and #Walkaway.

Meet @ZacconeMaryann, yet another Twitter account using a photograph that in all likelihood does not depict the owner of the account. The plagiarized aspects go far beyond the photo with this one, though.

First off, @ZacconeMaryann's tweet schedule appears to be organic, although we will note this does not preclude the possibility of well-disguised automation. Based on hashtags and terms used, this could be a run-of-the-mill #resistance account. . .
Things start getting complicated when one looks at all the different states that @ZacconeMaryann apparently lives in. Normally at this point in thread we'd describe these things as contradictions that demonstrate that the account is acting deceptively. However. . .

Bot operators who run groups of accounts frequently create them in batches. Analysts sometimes use this trait to detect the presence of bot networks in a set of accounts. Let's try it with the IFTTT bots discussed in the below thread.

The creation dates/times for the IFTTT bots show several spikes. We'll take a closer look at a point in time in March 2014 when ~30 were created in the span of an hour. Do these accounts look similar?
Answer: yes. We found a set of 33 automated accounts created on March 30, 2014 that all link gaming content on Reddit, with each account being devoted to a different forum/game. The account names follow a pattern: 11 or 12 lowercase letters, alternating consonants and vowels.

We've frequently run across news bots that link material from various sources via automation service IFTTT. We downloaded all tweets linking 24 different sites posted using IFTTT for the last 10 days. #AllTheNewsThatsFitToAutomate

These figures show A) the number of tweets and B) the number of accounts linking each site sent via IFTTT. Reddit has the largest number of IFTTT-posted tweets, followed by the New York Times. What proportion of tweets linking each site are automated with IFTTT?
Reddit is again an outlier; 21.52% of tweets linking the site were sent via IFTTT. Tech news site Ars Technica (9.69%), NY Times (8.58%), Tass (5.87%), Sputnik News (2.33%), and Russia Insider (2.22%) round out the top of the list.

1/ I completely disagree about Baker’s record. He appears to be moderate only in comparison to the extreme right on the federal level. He’s blown off the 2008 MA global warming solutions act, put forth an ultimately illegal gas “pipeline tax” & let DPU gas inspectors dwindle to 2
2/ ... which directly resulted in the Merrimack Valley literally exploding. Multiple 1000’s of gas leaks go unrepaired while Baker sits on hands re: National Grid’s gas worker lockout (5 mos now!). Baker is in favor of New gas infrastructure despite not needing the gas #mapoli
3/ Baker supports Trump’s favored picks for Senator & MA AG who would further enable Trump’s dangerous policies. Baker had to be forced by public outcry to withdraw MA Nat Guard troops from the border in June (even tho Baker KNEW families were being separated).
