1. Since people were asking about this subtweet, let me un pack it a little. There used to be a magazine called Living Marxism which morphed in 1990s into Spiked and now Spiked-Online. They take money from Koch Bros & specialize in Climate Change denial & other rightwing causes
2. Spiked-Online just published this article celebrating the Anti-Woke Left (a.k.a. dirtbag left). I think that's telling because there are signs that dirtbag left will follow trajectory of Spiked (left to right): spiked-online.com/2019/07/04/mee…
3. I'll add that the problem with the dirtbag left is not that it's offensive but that it's lazy. I mean, the sort of shock humor it specializes in is a pretty low grade of comedy, one that's common to c-list stand-up.
4. Comedy is based on social discomfort, the saying of the unsayable. So easy to get a laugh by using slur based on race, gender, sexual identity. The trick is to go beyond that easy laugh & explore the discomfort, as say Pryor did. But dirtbag humor is mostly at easy level
5. The guys on the right are becoming Red Scare curious.
