Over the weekend, an event, Northern Youth Forum held in "a location"😂 that was known only to the children of the elite class, political class, and "almost" one faith based and then dominated majorly by active members of one party, then boldly and arrogantly called NORTHERN!

In these kind of gathering, the RICH and LITERATE tell the POOR and ILLITERATE why they are in that state and then come up with decisions for the POOR and ILLITERATE without actually understanding why the POOR is the ILLITERATE or the ILLITERATE is POOR.

They'd propose EDUCATION (the innocent culprit whenever a Nigerian wants to explain away the reason for our sorry state) , GIRLCHILD education, GENDER INCLUSION and an end to ALMAJIRANCI. What will follow is grouping and solicitations for funds.

The next face is to "RELIGIONIZE" it by not capturing Christian minorities in Muslim majority States, and Christian majority states. It'll then fade off and talked less about. Meanwhile, the children of the same elite would have made political gains and cashed-in on it.

In four years, we'd gather again to talk about it and proffer solutions telling the POOR why they are poor again, and the cycle will continue every four years. Only that in most cases, the POOR to whom we are trying to forge a path for doesn't even know about it!

He/she is too busy trying to feed from the crumbs elite gatherings like these leave for them.

We can gather and talk for as long as we want, the only time the poor knows, is when they see it happen or when politicians tell them(in their language) during campaigns🤔.

It is indeed a Nigerian scourge, even though it is felt more in the North because of population. So how do we solve it? Reversal of political ideology!

The @GovKaduna has started it, even though there's so much to be done, @elrufai has, in my opinion, started the process.

If the North is to get it right, it has to start by opening up again. Quickest fix, which all these long conferences seeks to achieve, is a total shift from religious CONSERVATISM to a Liberal society. Those who'd bring development to any society, whether educated or not.....

..., will come with their social norms. You must find a common ground where yours as host and theirs meet and commingle so long as it won't cost lives. When they come, they come with everything you pay hugely to go get fro them in faraway land.

When they do come, they bring along the much needed Education, Healthcare and Infrastructure. All they need is safety. Religious misappropriation has been at the root of insecurity and criminality in the North, take off that and investors will come trooping in.

With investors comes education, formal and informal, improved healthcare, social infrastructures etc, and with all these government won't need to pay differently to get its people educated, healthcare challenges will reduce, and the GIRLCHILD won't have to be offered

Education like a trophy.

Religious conservatism is the problem of the North. We can wait for as long as it takes to bridge the gap between "the developing south and the backwards north" in the words of @elrufai, we'd still be here. The poor will keep growing the population

until it can no longer hold. Government doesn't need gathering like that to chart a course. Grant it that ideas do come, but if after almost 59 year the north is still finding solutions to a recurring crisis, then it is safe to say it isn't ready at all.

You can't want development and you're afraid to hurt religion and religious establishments. Point me to one such country that has given development without hurting religious conservatism? None!
