Disagree: History is open, countries and societies can change. Russia not hostage to its tsarist and communist past forever. Russians capable of democracy and conflict with others not its eternal destiny.
In other words, Putinism is a choice not a destiny or historical necessity. After Putin, a different Russia can emerge: in which the whole society benefits from the countries’ riches, government is controlled by citizens, and win-win becomes the goal of foreign policy.
“Realists” and propagandists want to make us believe that Russia can’t do better. But west should prepare for a post-Putin Russia in which all bets are off and democracy might have a second chance.

A power grab that is not forseen in the treaties and that has led to plenty of trouble.
At a moment when the world is heading towards a new great power order that threatens to undermine the whole EU project— which is based on the existence of a liberal, free and open international order.
EU must be made waterproof for this era, that’s the task for Europragmatists.

An awkward situation: in order to get elected, Ursula von der Leyen must promise all kinds of things on which she won’t be able to deliver — because the body to which she will preside, the Commission, is largely an instrument of the capitals, not a government. A charade.
The confusion about the institutional roles of the EP, the Commission, and the member states is profound. In practice the EU works well, under the control of the governments, especially the capitals of the big member states. /2
But in the rare moments when the national political classes and the broader public look at the EU institutions, there are all kinds of different and conflicting perceptions and ambitions coming to the forefront. /3

#Russia will never ask #Iran (and allies) to pull out of #Syria or out of the south of #Syria.

Russia wants to avoid further clashes between #Israel & #Iran in Syria and will try to do so to the benefit of the central government In #Damascus.
#Russia understands that #Iran was in #Syria 1st (2013 heavily) to help #Damascus to fight #ISIS, #AQ and their allies supported (finance, weapons, intel) by Arab, Israel and western countries to stop "regime change".

Russia came to join the already ongoing effort in 2015.
Unlike what many "pop-corn analysts", "Twitter or divan journalists/analysts" might say, #Assad - although very grateful for Moscow's intervention not only in Syria but also at the UN and various platforms - can and did disagree with #Russia in few battles north and south.
