Some American companies are reconsidering how working with Chinese partners could compromise U.S. national security, as well as human rights. Should "patriotism" play a role in the ethics of US-China tech collaboration?

Several lawmakers have called for an examination of U.S. funding that enables Chinese government surveillance of Muslim minorities. On the national security front, researchers who help China with AI have been accused of enabling Chinese military advancement.
However, many experts don’t think tech should be framed in terms of patriotism. They say it suggests that companies choosing to work with Chinese partners are somehow unethical, when in fact they are demonstrating a strength of the American system. latimes.com/world-nation/s…

Officer Lojann Dennison, a 20-year veteran with the Navajo Nation Police Department, patrols one of seven districts on a Navajo reservation that's home to 180,000 people.

Among 500 sovereign tribal nations in the U.S., the Navajo are among the few with their own police force.
That means Navajo patrolling Navajo, with aspects of the job far outside typical rural policing: She struggles with deeply rooted customs that can call for an officer to choose between allegiance to clan ties and upholding the law. latimes.com/columnone/la-n…
Female officers such as Dennison are a key part of the department’s approach to one of the toughest policing jobs in America.
