The fact that our dear country do not take responsibility for Nigerian citizens abroad is appalling.
In sane climes, such oversight will not happen; It is a show of dismal and embarrassing image for Nigeria.

However, I choose to be explicit on the secondary interest of a nation because it encompasses the crux of this matter.

According to Mbachu (2011), the secondary interest of a nation expresses policies which seek to promote and defend ‘nationals’ and investments abroad.

He further analyzed that no nation overlooks its citizens and investments abroad because their activities have implications for domestic stability.
Nigeria has not learnt this and we may end up learning this the hard way.

Ironically, as we have nationals of Nigeria making the country proud beyond her shores, we have those staining the GREEN PASSPORT, causing NATIONAL EMBARRASSMENT, and bringing us to disrepute.

For the purposes of defending nationals or foreign investments or economic interests abroad, states adopt either military option, economic sanction or diplomatic means depending on the images of risk involved.
In the wake of killings of Nigerians virtually all over the world from South Africa to Ukraine to Asia etc; I strongly recommend that Nigeria deploys astute diplomatic means to end this dilemma we currently wallow in.
We shouldn’t wait till events get out of hand.
