In the USSR, there were no billionaires. No millionaires either. Wealth creation was punishable by law, in a society based on envy.

We know where that ideology ends. In the murder of millions and the impoverishment of everyone, masses and elites alike.

We need more films about what happened in the USSR & PRC. The scripts are essentially there. Red Terror, Berlin Airlift, Prague Spring — just take Wikipedia articles & turn them into short YouTube videos.

If someone wants to do this, show me your portfolio as we could fund this.
This article was written ~20 years ago. And despite a few notable exceptions (Lives of Others, The Way Back, Bridge of Spies), the critique still holds.

Ten years ago, Kauffman estimated that ~60 billion dollar revenue firms per year would need to be started to boost economic growth by 1%.

So, yes, it’s important to defend wealth creation. We aren’t doing nearly enough.

Note that this is separate from the question of the distribution of created wealth.

Much data seems to show that the US middle class has been left out of growth for years.

Much deeper question as to what to do there, but tearing down Google isn’t going to usher in prosperity.
One clarification: Kauffman Foundation article came out in 2010, so more accurate to say “nine years ago” rather than exactly ten.

The fact that Indian entrepreneurs are willing to migrate and vote with their feet/wallet against India’s crypto ban will catalyze change over the long run.

Many will probably set up in Singapore which is nearby.
I love India, but hate this policy. Very sad. Like banning the internet in the 90s, it means millions of people may lose out on the rise of crypto.
The most tragic part is that the cryptoeconomy is the first financial system that India can participate in as a true equal.

In the drafting of Bretton Woods, India was still a colony.

Billionaires giving away half their money doesn't = affordable health insurance.

It doesn't = affordable housing.

It doesn't = higher wages.

It doesn't = lower prescription drug costs.

What it does: allows one person to sponsor their pet cause while everyone else suffers.
Generosity should always be encouraged and celebrated, but it's not a social safety net...not in a world of 7.5 billion people.
I led a discussion group at church on Sunday, and we got into this a little. Someone played devil's advocate and said, "But didn't the billionaire work hard and earn his money...not steal it?"

Well, it depends.

Now of course regulations & #progressive taxation are needed but to truly defeat inequality & protect our political system. We need to democratize the main source of #inequality which is the workplace. Our factories, stores, & offices aka the businesses that make up the #economy.
To do that we have to bring #democracy into the economy. Accomplished by passing comprehensive legislation that helps fund, promote, + incentivize the expansion & creation of #Worker #Cooperative businesses. Which are businesses owned & run by their workers democratically.

PWDV Act, 2005, gives a broad definition of what qualifies as ‘domestic abuse’. It includes physical, sexual, verbal, emotional and economic abuse. Section 3 reads:
