The reason I feel narrow impeachment is not the way to go is that this isn't about having an open &shut legal case,it's about doing so much damage to Trump's popular support that GOP Senators see being tied to him as a liability. It's about winning in the court of public opinion.
Making multiple cases is the only way to show the scope of the criminality & to make defending him less tenable. Further, cases reinforce each other (Russia 2016 &Ukraine 2019 are linked). Finally, having multiple impeachment articles allows GOP to reject a couple & vote for 1.
1 is all it takes. And the fears of "backlash" are not only overblown, but that making the more sweeping case provides a greater justification for the impeachment effort and defuses arguments that any one charge is weak or politically motivated.
