@Alex_Panetta

There is a huge issue with your article on the recent Canadian Election. A glaring mistake which misinforms your readers about the SNC scandal.

Trudeau did NOT pressure the Attorney General to drop charges against SNC.
He & his entourage strongly suggested the AG get a second legal opinion regarding the use of a Deferred Prosecution Agreement (DPA). That’s a huge difference.

A DPA is a tool to hold the perpetrators of crime responsible, while protecting innocent workers pensions & employment.
DPA’s are a recent tool in Canada, but not globally. In fact the US has increasingly used DPA’s to address corporate crime since they were established as an option 20 years ago in 1999.
Your statement that the current Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, pressured the former AG to drop charges is false and terribly misleading.

That action you attribute to him is a crime in Canada, and the US. It’s obstruction of justice.
Currently, the US President, Donald Trump, is being investigated for several instances of obstruction of justice. The Mueller Report lists several, and both US and Canadian citizens watch daily as he and his entourage continue to attempt to obstruct justice.
The US Congress has initiated an impeachment inquiry and blatant evidence has been made public that implicates President Trump and several members of his entourage are indeed obstructing justice.
The Canadian Prime Minister has NOT committed a crime. His actions were an overly exuberant demand for justification for not using the newly created DPA tool. An ethical breach, but not even close to criminal obstruction of justice.
However, the allegation of obstruction of justice has been repeated ad nauseum by Canadian Conservative partisan actors attempting to smear the PM, tarnish his reputation, and impugn his character. And of course, win the federal election.
During the Canadian federal election campaign, Andrew Scheer, leader of the Conservatives, made reference to the SNC scandal and promised to investigate it further, as a crime of obstruction of justice.

The group of people he was speaking to erupted in chants of “Lock Him Up!”
Reminiscent of Trump campaign rallies where crowds of supporters chanted “Lock Her Up!” over Hillary Clinton’s ethical breach regarding emails and a reference to Benghazi investigations that found no crime was committed after a 2 year intensive investigation.
This is an example of demagoguery. Inspired by the criminally convicted and imprisoned Trump presidential campaign manager, Paul Manafort. Who, incidentally, did help orchestrate the criminal prosecution and imprisonment of Yulia Tymoshenko on trumped up false charges.
This is detailed in the Mueller Report. In fact two lawyers face criminal charges for lying about the report that was produced to justify Tymoshenko be imprisoned. One has already been convicted and served his sentence. The other case is being prosecuted. reuters.com/article/us-usa…
Your casual reference to Prime Minister Trudeau pressuring the former AG is amplifying disinformation that has been and will continue to be used to malign his character. It’s already been used by conservatives to build populist demand for his criminal prosecution & imprisonment.
In other words, the article is blatantly maligning the character of the current Canadian Prime Minister. An opinion article that influences the perception that a crime was committed, when it very clearly was not.

It’s interference in the politics of a foreign nation.
While it has been torturous as a Canadian to witness the extermination of US democracy by irresponsible US based MSM, the rampant populist demagoguery of partisan actors has generally remained focussed on building the Trump narrative.

Your article crosses the line.
As a Canadian citizen with a vested interest in maintaining Canadian democracy and avoiding the descent into chaos I witness daily in the US, I feel the need to address your article’s disinformation. Or push back the fog of disinformation.
There is nothing that can justify or excuse amplifying Canadian partisan narratives in a US based news outlet.

I am not the only Canadian citizen disturbed by this recent turn of events. It’s unwelcome and criminal interference.
The Times amplification of the brown-face scandal was intentional US interference in the Canadian federal election.

It’s also no longer a secret that the leader of the Conservative Party of Canada is a US dual citizen. Using US style negative politicking to further his agenda.
Your article, while misinforming Americans & Canadians, is also another confirmation that the US would prefer a US Conservative, dual citizen in control of Canadian policy.

Largely speculated by Canadians, but increasingly confirmed by continued US MSM disinformation.
I am a Canadian. And I do have respect for Americans. We share many similar attitudes, beliefs and values. But I remain distinct in culture and allegiance to my own nation. As Canada remains distinct in sovereignty from the US.

Canadians, by a huge majority, prefer it that way.
Please amend your article.

As it stands, it is an example of disinformation. An example of the global problem affecting information accuracy; demagoguery and populist rhetoric.
Far be it from me to opine about your nation and it’s obviously corrupt leadership, but then, I have a limited platform. You do not. You have overstepped a boundary and need to amend that folly.

Please address the disinformation in your article. ASAP. Thank you in advance.
