Mangas did not respond to NBC's inquiry in the story.

Worth noting: A Greenberg Traurig shareholder swore in an affidavit back then that there was an "ethical wall" erected between the registered Turkish agent side of the firm and Giuliani's representation of Zarrab.
So if NBC's correct in suspecting a connection between Giuliani and Mangas in this butt dial, that's no small deal.

Halkbank proceedings over:

That was Schrödinger’s hearing, with the bank's representatives from King & Spalding saying they were there but they were not.

Attorney Andrew Hruska: "My purpose is to make sure that nothing we do or say can be construed as accepting jurisdiction."
Halkbank wants to be able to attack the proceedings charging them with a record-breaking money laundering scheme in U.S. history, without acknowledging them.

At issue today: Can the bank's attorneys have a "special" appearance allowing them to do so?
Halkbank's team wants to file two motions: challenging jurisdiction and seeking the judge's recusal.

Their attorneys would not confirm that their clients would appear in court even if this were allowed.

Judge Berman called it a "Heads I win, tails you lose" request.

Halkbank, recently declared a "fugitive" by prosecutors, still refuses to receive an indictment charging it with a recordbreaking money laundering scheme.

Its arraignment is slated at 11am EST today.

@CourthouseNews Halkbank's attorneys at King & Spalding requested a "limited" appearance to attack the proceedings without their client acknowledging the charges.

Prosecutors found no basis for that last night, telling the judge he can sanction them for contempt.
@CourthouseNews Also, to be clear, the Congressional inquiries into Halkbank are completely separate from the court proceedings.

The Turkish sanctions bill includes penalties for the state-run bank.

Senator Wyden, ranking member of the Finance Committee, is also probing the Halkbank scandal.

NEW: Turkey's state-run bank Halkbank refuses to accept service of the indictment, their attorneys at the firm King & Spalding tell a federal judge.

They ask for a "limited" appearance to challenge jurisdiction and request recusal.

Halkbank's arraignment's scheduled tomorrow.
Remember: Federal prosecutors declared Halkbank a "fugitive" last month.

His name is Robert Mangas, & he’s a lawyer at the firm Greenberg Traurig LLP, as well as a registered agent of the Turkish govt. Giuliani himself was employed by Greenberg Traurig until abt May 2018
